OBITUARY:
The funeral of Mrs. Emma Keller, wife of Joseph Keller, who died at the family residence in this city Sunday evening, was held Tuesday afternoon from the First Christian church at 2:30 by Rev. F. J. Porter, and interment took place at the Odd Fellows cemetery. Several musical selections were rendered by the Christian church male quartet. The pallbearers were E.. A. Bennett, A. M. Hansen, A. W. Walcher, James Godfrey, J. A. Todd and W. A. Bullock.
Mrs. Keller came to Oregon about twelve years ago and settled near Portland. Several months ago she moved with her family to this city, where she expected to make her future home. Before moving to Salem she had visited here many times and about four years ago confessed her faith in Christianity at the First Christian church in this city. She leaves, besides a husband, the following children: Mrs. Isola Baker of Portland, Mrs. Laura Stroup of Sherwood, Ore., and Blanche, Asher, Emory and Ethel Keller, all of Salem. She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters; Mrs. S. E. Wolfe of Salem, Mrs. Frances Ankeny of Kansas, Mrs. Kate Fair, Mrs. Ida Maler and Mrs. Allie Passage of Michigan, Simon Engle of Salem, Norman P. Engle of Michigan and Fremont Engle of Indiana. Friends and relatives from Vancouver, Wash., Portland and Estacada attended the funeral.
As a wife and mother, Mrs. Keller was tender and devoted; and, though because of her short stay in this community, her circle of acquaintances was not wide, those who knew her were pleased to call her friend. Patience and cheerfulness in either disappointments or in joys, were among the virtues so noticeable in her life. Just eight years from the day and hour that her mother was buried, kind friends laid her to rest, covering the grave with beautiful flowers - their tributes to the memory of one whose going from our midst, leaves a vacancy that will not be filled. --A.
