OBITUARY: 

Mrs Carrie Beechler, 97, 3837 Shaniko Way NE, a member of a pioneer Salem family, died Sunday in a Salem nursing home. Her grandparents, Mr and Mrs Lucien E. Pratt, came to Salem in 1857 and Pratt established and operated the city’s first woolen mill, Willamette Woolen Factory, until 1863. Mrs Beechler was born in Stockton, Calif, while her parents were on a trip. Her father, Henry Haas, was a jeweler. He installed the clock in the old Marion County Courthouse and when the courthouse was torn down in 1953 the clock was installed in the City Hall tower. Mrs Beechler was a printer for the Oregon Statesman at the turn of the century before her marriage to James L. Lambirth. He died about 1914. She later married Dr C.W. Beechler, a dentist, who died in 1934. She was a member of the American War Mothers and First Congregational Church. Survivors include daughter Mrs Garlen Simpson, Salem; son, James Lambirth, Bellingham, Wash; and here grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Funeral will be Wednesday at 11 am at Virgil T. Golden Mortuary, Rev W. Carl Calhoun officiating. Burial will be in Salem Pioneer cemetery.
