OBITUARY:
Jack was born December 25, 1922 in Rich Township near Mayville, Mich. He graduated from High School in Flint, Mich. and served in the Marine Corps during World War II. He moved to Salem in 1946 and worked for the Salem Fire Dept., receiving an honorary award from the City of Salem for saving a life. Jack retired after 30 years. Jack was Scout Master for Troop 15 in West Salem from 1964-1975. He was a member, Past Commander and Past District 2 Commander of American Legion Post #136 in Salem, a Master Mason of Masonic Lodge #215, a member of the Keizer Elks Lodge and a member of Knight Memorial U.C.C. Survivors include his wife, Priscilla (Simkins) whom he married in 1947; sons, Jack Gorman of Hillsboro and Joel Johnson of Sherwood; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Gorman; a daughter, Sueann Root and 5 sisters. He enjoyed hunting elk and deer, fishing and gardening. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at the Pioneer Cemetery in Salem. Contributions can be made to Willamette Valley Hospice or Marion County Food Bank.
