OBITUARY:
KILLED by a HORSE.
Asbury A. Benson, of Turner, Receives a Fatal Wound From the Kick of a Horse.
Asbury A. Benson, of Turner, was riding a fractious horse near the Parker school house, about three miles southwest of Turner, on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, when he was thrown to the ground and kicked in the back of the head by the vicious animal. Medical assistance was summoned at once, when it was found that the whole scalp on the back of the head was torn away and a terrible wound inflicted. The victim remained unconscious all night, and at 7 o'clock yesterday (Wednesday) morning, June 26th he died. Deceased was born in Illinois, May 22, 1860, and was therefore 29 years of age. He leaves a wife, whose maiden name was Emma Loftus, daughter of Mrs. Carr, of Turner, and three small children, a daughter and two sons. He was a son of William Benson, of South Salem, and also leaves four brothers and three sisters, Charles, W. A. and J. S. Benson, of Salem; L. W. Benson, of Turner; and Mrs. O. I. Morris, of Turner, Mrs. William Holcomb, of South Salem, and Miss Maggie Benson, of Salem.
Deceased had just bought a lot and built himself a house in Turner, having finished painting it the day before he was killed, and had them all paid for.
There are many sincere mourners and sympathizers with his sadly bereaved family. The body will be brought down on this (Thursday) afternoon's train, thence to the Methodist church, where the funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock, after which the remains will be laid to rest in the IOOF cemetery.
