This Friday morning there died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Holcomb, on South Commercial street, William Benson, aged nearly 80 years. Deceased was born February 15, 1822, and came to Oregon 24 years ago. He served in the Union army for three years as a private and was wounded several times on the field of battle. Mr. Benson had been in feeble health for several years and for the past three months had been confined to the house and carefully attended by his children, who have done all in their power to make his closing days comfortable.
