IOOF Edwin Cartwright, age 50 died in Portland by a fall and amputation of arm;
OBITUARY:
SUDDEN DEATH--Mr. Edward Cartwright, deputy collector of internal revenue in Portland, died in his room at 3 P. M., Monday last. For some time past Mr. Cartwright has been confined to his room with a severe cold, and, though not able to be upon the streets, was able to attend to his official duties. Sunday he felt much worse but Monday morning felt some better and went to work about his duties. About three o'clock he suddenly complained of feeling sick, and seemed to be suffering internal pain. There were several persons in the room, including his brother Hon. John Cartwright. The gentlemen assisted him to the sofa when he exclaimed, "I guess I am gone this time," and expired. Nearly a year ago Mr. Cartwright sustained an injury in one of his arms which necessitated the amputation of the limb near the shoulder joint. For many weeks he was confined at St. Vincent hospital, and his recovery deemed out of the question. Subsequently he recovered, but his health has been quite feeble at times ever since he left the hospital. The deceased was about 50 years of age and was well and favorable known in this city. The remains were brought to this city on yesterday morning's train and buried in the Odd Fellow's cemetery.
