OBITUARY: SMITH - At the family home at 331 Cottage street, this city at 10:30 o'clock p.m., October 14, 1904, of Bright's disease of the kidneys, Mrs. Evaline Donaldson.
Thus passes away another of the pioneers of the earlier decade of Oregon's settlements she having come into Oregon in the fall of 1847. A native of Jackson county, Missouri, where she was born on July 9, 1833, she came to this state and was married to D. H. Smith in this county, on November 13, 1851. She was again married to John Donaldson on December 12, 1891, who still survives her.
She came here with her father and mother, Samuel and Sarah Allen, and they settled on the Abiqua, near Silverton. When she and Mr. Smith were married they took up a donation land claim on Howell Prairie on the road leading from this city to Silverton, and there she resided until about twenty-five years ago, when she became a resident of the Capital City. There survive her of her brothers and sisters Thos. B. Allen and Angeline Sweeney of Walla Walla; Miss M. L. Allen of Salem, and Mrs. Linna Settlemeier of Butte, Montana, and of her children, three sons, D. W. Smith, H. R. Smith and E. B. Smith, the two former being residents of Howell Prairie and the latter of Fossil, Wheeler county. The funeral will take place from the house at 1:30 p.m., on Monday.
