1880 OR CENSUS - Geo. A. Eades, age 54, county clerk, b. Mass., is enumerated with wife Rhoda, age 40 b. Illinois, and 2 children: Edw'd, 20, store clerk, b. Oregon and Nellie, age 10, b. Oregon.

BIOGRAPHICAL:
George A. Edes served as Sheriff of Mation County from 1860 to 1862. After he left the Sheriff's Office, Edes was Marion County Clerk from 1862 to 1864 and again from 1876 to 1878.

Jan. 9, 1885 necrological list of burials in I.O.O.F cemetery: Geo. A. Edes, March 7, 1884, age 58 years, 2 months, 1 day, died in Salem, Oregon, of paralysis.
 BIOGRAPHY: George A. Edes was elected as enrolling clerk for Salem City Council in 1857; elected enrolling clerk for House of Representatives in1859; advertised as proprietor of a wharf boat in 1859; elected Sheriff of Marion County in June of 1860 and continued in that position into the 1870's; member of Marion County Agricultural Society in 1862; a mason and a member of Masonic Grand Lodge of Oregon; president Santiam Gold & Silver Mining Co.; elected director of Salem-Deschutes Wagon Road Company in 1864; elected Mayor of Salem in 1865. Also, for a time he was a druggist

George A. Edes was sheriff and county clerk; was for a time a druggist.  He was a memeber of the city council, and was stricken at a meeting of that body and died soon after, early in 1884.  He was the father of Mrs. Henry W. Meyers of Salem.  He at one time, owned the present Dan J. Fry, Sr., home, on the hill on South High street. (Now owned by Mrs. Fry, widow of Dan J. Fry, Sr.)
