OBITUARY:
At the residence of H. A. Johnson, Church street, Salem, Or., at 5:30 p.m., April 15, 1890, John Earl, aged 42 years, 1 month and 11 days.
The deceased was the eldest son of Philip Earl, of Hatley, P. Q., Canada, at which place he was born, March 4, 1848. He came to Salem with his parents in the winter of 1861, where he resided most of the time since, up to his death. He was married to Rachael C., the daughter of H. A. Johnson, Oct 4, 1876.
He leaves a loving wife, an aged father, now in Canada, two sisters, Mrs. J. A. Sellwood, of Salem, Or., and Mrs. W. J. Robbins, of Ellensburg, Wash., and one brother, Henry L. Earl, of Salem to mourn his death. He was a great sufferer for many years, yet he bore his sufferings with patience and christian resignation. He passed away just like a child going to sleep.
He was a devoted communicant of the Episcopal church, loved and respected by all who knew him. The funeral will be conducted from the Episcopal church, by Rev. F. H. Post, to-day at 2:30 p.m. The remains will be interred in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.

INSCRIPTION:
John Earl
Died
Apr. 15, 1890
Aged
42 years
One by one earths 's ties are broken
As we see our love decay;
And the hopes so fondly cherished
Brighten but to pass away
One by one our hopes grow brighter
As we near the shining shore
For we know across the river
Wait the loved ones gone before.
