FUNERAL WILL OCCUR TODAY.
The Remains of the late Mr. and Mrs. P. F. Emerson, To be Laid to Rest Under the Auspices of the Odd Fellows This Afternoon.
They Arrived in Salem at 11 a.m. Yesterday from Nelson, B. C.
A Wealth of Beautiful Floral Pieces Sent by British Friends of Deceased. The remains of the late Mr. and Mrs. P. F. Emerson, both of whom died within four days of each other, in Nelson. B.C., last week, arrived in this city at 11 a.m. yesterday. The caskets containing the remains were at once conveyed to the undertaking parlors of Rigdon & Clough on Court street. It was found that the remains had been placed in zinc-lined pine boxes, and they were transferred to and were allowed to lie in state in the parlors of the undertakers.
The double funeral will be held from the First M.E. church at 1 p.m. today, Rev. John Parsons, D.D. officiating. Chemeketa Lodge No. 1, IOOF of which Mr. Emerson was an honored member, will attend in a body, and will take charge of the remains of their deceased brother and his wife and give them burial with the beautiful rites of the order. The lodge, as well as members of Olive Lodge No. 18, and sojourning members, and the Rebekahs, have been called to meet in the Odd Fellows' hall at 12:30 o'clock sharp to attend the funeral.
It is not often that husband and wife are buried on the same day, and while the remains were to be seen at the undertakers last night, many friends of deceased called to take a last look at them. The caskets were covered with beautiful floral pieces, from friends of the family at Nelson, B.C. On Mr. Emerson's casket rested several large wreaths and other floral pieces, one of which, the three links, emblem of the Odd Fellows, especially attracted attention. These were fuirnished by Kootenay Lodge No. 16 I.O.O.F. On the left breast of the deceased was a badge and jewel of the order, also bearing the name of that lodge.
Mrs. Emerson's casket was also covered with a wealth of beautiful flowers, one large piece bearing a card with the following inscription: "With the deep Symnpathy of the Pupils of St. Joseph's Convent."
