Funeral announcements later.  After having served a useful life and raised a family of nine children and seen numerous grandchildren reared almost to manhood, the deceased, a member of the "rapidly depleting ranks" of the nation’s valiant soldiery of the civil war, survived his 82d birthday anniversary by one day and passed to the "great beyond" in the midst of his family, after bidding each and all an affectionate farewell, weakly pronouncing his last hours on earth the "happiest of his existence".  He was born in Tippecanoe county, Indiana, August 9, 1833, and was married to Sarah Ann Shigley, who survives him, also a native of the same state and county, August 5, 1858. Ten children were born to this union, nine of whom survive: Ida B. Kirkpatrick, of Urbana, Illinois; John A. Joseph, Or.; Charles D Gertrude E. (West), Raymond C. Georgia G. (Davis), Oratia L. and Everett E. Fisher. All of the children, with the exception of Mrs. Kirkpatrick, of Illinois, Raymond C. of near McMinnville, and Everett E. Fisher, of the Portland fire department, reside in Salem. He is also survived by a sister, Mary Isabelle Johnson, of Battle Creek, Indiana, and a brother, Dr. John J. Fisher, of Portland. James Fisher enlisted for the civil war in Indiana, and was mustered into the 72d Indiana volunteers on December 23, 1863, and served throughout the war, up to June 26, 1865, with the famous "Wilder’s Lightning Brigade" army of the Cumberland, and was then transferred to the 44th Indiana regiment and served the balance of the war.  The greater part of his service was as mounted infantry and he was in all of the most important engagements during and after the battle of Chicamauga, including the siege of Atlanta. He also participated in Sherman’s great "march to the sea". He crossed the plains with his family from Benkelman, Nebraska, in 1894, arriving in Salem in the summer of that year and has resided here almost continuously since. He was a member of Sedgwick Post No. 10, G. A. R. of Salem, and although funeral arrangements have not as yet been made, no doubt this patriotic organization of old veterans will take charge of the ceremonies, both at the residence and at the cemetery, where he will be interred in the family plot beside his daughter, Minnie, who died several years ago.  Daily Oregon Statesman 11 Aug 1915 2:6-7.  Funeral Postponed. A. R. Veteran, Who Died at Age of 82, Buried Yesterday Services Are of Combined Religions and Patriotic Character. Relatives and Friends Pay Tribute to Memory of Deceased.  Following services of a combined religious and patriotic character at the undertaking parlors of Webb & Clough, at 2 o’clock yesterday afternoon, and patriotic ceremonies at the graveside, the remains of the late James Fisher were laid to their final rest in the family plot in the Odd Fellows cemetery.  The religious services at the parlors were conducted by President H. J. Talbot of Kimball college, followed by the funeral ceremony of the Women’s Relief corps. And the ritualistic ceremonies at the cemetery were conducted under the auspices of Sedgwick Post No. 10. G. A. R. of which deceased was a member, Post Commander F. L. Pound officiating. In testimony of the high regard in which the deceased was held in the G. A. R. and W. R. C. circles and the community of Salem, of which he has been a resident almost continuously since 1894, the funeral chapel of the undertaking parlors was crowded to the limit of its capacity and many beautiful floral offerings attested the profound love and esteem of grief stricken friends and relatives. Miss Lela McCaddam of this city contributed the song service for the sad occasion, rendering "He Leadeth Me", "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder", and "Rock of Ages" very beautifully.  Deceased, who departed this life at the family residence, 241 North Cottage street, Tuesday afternoon, August 10, aged 82 years, has been a lifelong Christian and member of the Methodist church since early boyhood, and the sermon offered by Rev. Talbot at the chapel was not only eulogistic of the character of the departed as a soldier and a citizen but also as an upright and conscientious Christian.  The family resided at Newberg for about four years and a large concourse of comrades, friends and acquaintances from there were in attendance at the funeral. The pallbearers were comrades R. F. Pike and Moore of Newberg, and comrades D. M. Wilson, A. Thomas, T. A. Ratcliff and Thomas Holt of this city. Those attending the funeral from out of the city, aside from the children of the deceased. Mrs. Ida Kilpatrick of Urbana, Ill., Raymond C. Fisher of McMinnville. Charles D. and Everett E. Fisher of Portland, were Mrs. Al Hillier, Mrs. O. H. Gilbert, Miss Myrtle Gilbert. Miss Myrtle Evans of Portland, and J.
