Apr 1896 in Oregon, is enumerated with mother Bertha Hicks, identified as step-daughter [of James], age 22, widowed, mother of 1 child, b. Oct 1877 in Oregon, in the home of James M.  Rader, age 40, occupation saw mill laborer, b. May 1860 in Oregon, and Phoebe L., age 46, mother of 3 children 2 of whom are living at the time of the census, b. Mar 1854 in Iowa.

NOTE - her mother, Bertha, remarried to John M. Walker circa 1906, and is enumerated in Philomath, Oregon in the 1910 census, with husband and a son, Donald, age 4 months.

OBITUARY: 

HICKS - At Albany, Oregon, Saturday, February 13, 1904, Alice e. Hicks, aged 8 years, of pneumonia.

The little girl was the daughter of Mrs. J. M. Reader, formerly of this city, now Coburg. The child attended school at Albany, and was there taken sick. Her mother hastened to her bedside, and remained with her until the end came. The remains were brought to Salem last evening and the funeral was held from the train, and burial was held in Rural cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Rader returned to their home in Colbur today.
