OBITUARY:
Brother of Former Mayor of Salem Expires at the Salem Hospital.
At the Salem Hospital, Salem, Oregon, Tuesday, August 9, 1904, Patrick Kelly, aged 80 years, of tuberculosis, superinduced by an affection of the bones of the limb.
The deceased was born in Ireland and came to this country over forty years ago, but, although he was a member of one of the most prominent families of this city, he was of a reserved and seclusive disposition, and was not very well known. He was a brother of Hon. A. A. Kelly, deceased, at one time mayor of this city, and for years a respected resident of Salem, his principal occupation or trade being that of a blacksmith. Mrs. Kelly, widow of A. A. Kelly, the nearest relative of the late deceased, resides about five miles north of this city.
Patrick Kelly, up to within a little over the past month, when he was removed to the hospital, made his home with his deceased brother's widow and her brother, Clarke Halley. For more than twenty-five years past he has been a constant but patient and uncomplaining sufferer of a painful affection of the leg, known as a tubercular affection of the bone, which disease, although the affected limb was amputated at the knee on June 10 last, as the only hope of saving his life, so permeated his system that recovery was impossible. He has been a devout Christian all his life and the funeral services will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic church, in this city, at 9 o'clock this morning, and interment will be had in the family plot in the Odd Fellows' cemetery.
