DIED LAST NIGHT.
Mrs. J. J. Basey, After Long Sickness, Passed to Her Rest.
At 9:30 o'clock last evening, at her home on Asylum avenue, in this city, Mrs. Purdence Ayers Basey passed to her rest. She was the wife of J. J. Basey, deceased, who was a son of Isaac Basey, one of the party of men with Lewis and Clark, the explorers, on their trip to Oregon.
Prudence Ayers was born in Indiana in the year 1823, February 1. She was married to J. J. Basey, November 21, 1839, and they crossed the plains with their family in 1853, coming with an ox team. Deceased leaves four sons and a daughter to mourn her demise. They are W. W. and A. J. Basey and Mrs. Mary B. Willard, of Salem, J. C. Basey, of Lakeview, and I. N. Basey, of Portland, also several grandchildren and great grandchildren. There are also a great many friends of the good lady to mourn her loss, for she was a good, kind woman.
During all her days she was a Christian. Just before her death she called in the loved ones of her immediate family circle and bid them goodbye. She had been a patient sufferer from her last sickness for twelve months, bearing all cheerully and never complaining at her lot or dreading the approaching end. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday) from the late home of Mrs. Basey on Asylum avenue.
