OBITUARY:
DEATH of MISS KNIGHT.
Sunday morning this community was startled by news of the death of Miss Lulu Knight, oldest daughter of Rev. and Mrs. P. S. Knight.
Miss Knight, as her family and her family and friends with deep pain observed, had been declining in health since about two years ago, when she contracted a severe cold, which added to a bronchial affection from which she had been suffering, broke down her system completely. During these two years Miss Knight has been confined almost all the time in the house, but was so strong were her pluck and determination that she never gave up to take to her bed. Still her real condition could not be concealed from her grieved family, who cared for her with the most assiduous and loving attention.
Last Saturday she had dressed herself as usual, and had walked a little about the house, but early in the evening she retired to her bed never to leave it. She passed away at 1:45 Sunday morning.
Miss Lulu was born in Salem, January 1st, 1864, and was therefore 24 years, 1 month and 26 days of age when she died. Her home has been here ever since, though a larger part of the several years preceeding her sickness was spent in Portland where she had a large circle of friends. She was an amiable and accomplished lady, and was an excellent musician, her voice having been highly cultivated.
Her death is a loss seriously felt by her family and a large number of her old playmates and friends in Salem and other places where she was known. Rev. P. S. Knight was to have preached the funeral discourse of the late Dr. Carpenter, Sunday, but the death of his own daughter prevented. Among the floral offerings upon the coffin of Dr. Carpenter was a beautiful floral cross, fashioned and sent by Lulu as her tribute to the memory of the deceased father on one of her especial frineds.
The funeral services will take place from the residence at the mute school, this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. J. W. Harris, of the Congregational church, of which denomination Miss Knight was from childhood a consistent member, will conduct the services. Friends of the family who wish to view the remains are requested to call at the residence before the hour of the funeral.

MISS KNIGHT'S FUNERAL.
The funeral of Miss Lulu Knight was conducted from the residence at the mute school yesterday afternoon. A very large number of friends of the deceased, especially of those among the young people, were present at the ceremonies. The services consisted of scriptural reading, prayer and an address by Rev. J. W. Harris and appropriate selections by the Congregational choir, assisted by Mrs. George W. Belt. The floral presentations were remarkably beautiful and profuse. The body was interred in the Odd Fellows' cemetery.
