OBITUARY:
JOHN W. LANCE, of MARION IS DEAD.
Mr. Lance expired yesterday morning at 10 o'clock, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. L. Jones, at Jefferson, whither he had gone on Thursday to consult his physician upon the state of his health, which he deemed not the best, although no serious of threatening symptoms were noted. His demise was due to heart trouble and came as a severe shock to his family and friends. His age was 67 years.
Mr. Lance was a pioneer citizen of this county, having come here in the early '60's and lived out a career of honorable and useful citizenship that will long and happily be remembered by a host of devoted friends. He moved from Salem to Jefferson some nine years ago, and thence to Marion, where his home was established.
He leaves to mourn his sudden death, besides the stricken widow, three daughters, namely; Mrs. P. W. Van Buren and Mrs. W. L. Jones, of Jefferson, and Mrs. John Chase, of this city. Services will be held at the family home at Marion this morning, under the auspices of Friends church, after which the remains will be brought to Salem and will be buried from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chase, on South Commercial street, a brief service under the ministration of Rev. W. E. Copeland, D. D. of Unity church, being had, intermnet following in Rural cemetery.
