OBITUARY:
KILLED IN THE QUARRY.
A telegram was received in Salem yesterday that George Layanacker, a stone cutter in the Pioneer stone quarry near Yaquina bay, had been accidentally killed during the forenoon. He worked in Salem for several years, being in the employ of Fred Erickson, and previous to leaving Salem about ten days ago, assisted in preparing and shaping the stone to be used in the city hall. His home was near the fair grounds and he leaves a wife and two small children to mourn the loss of a husband and father.
Layanacker was a member in good standing of the Odd Fellows lodge of Ogden, Kansas, and also the Masonic order. He was one of Mr. Erickson's intimate friends. No particulars as to how the accident happened were received in this city. It was a sad scene at the family home when Mr. Erickson conveyed the news of Mr. Layanacker's death to his wife. The remains will be brought to Salem for interment which will be in Rural cemetery.

MR. LAYANACKER’S DEATH ---
The body of George LayAnacker, who met with a fatal accident at the Pioneer quarry Tuesday morning, arrived on the 1:40 p. m. train yesterday afternoon in charge of two of the employees of the quarry. A delegation of Odd Fellows and Masons were at the depot with a hearse to receive the remains and accompany them to the residence of the deceased in North Salem. From the gentlemen who came with the body the following account of the accident was learned: Mr. LayAnacker went to the top of the hill above the quarry to cut down an overhanging tree with a saw, cutting from the lower side. When partly severed the tree fell on him, throwing him backward into the quarry about fifteen or twenty feet, where he struck on his right shoulder and head, breaking his neck, the tree falling on him pinning him to the rocks. It took the united efforts of six men to release the body, and when finally released, life was found extinct. A physician was hastily sent for, but nothing could be done for the man. The funeral will be conducted by Olive lodge, No 18 I. O. O. F. this morning at 9:30 a. m. at the residence in North Salem, from where the procession will go to Rural cemetery. The deceased was a member of Ogden lodge No. 281, I. O. O. F., Ogden, Kansas and also of the Masonic lodge of that place. He was a hard working man, a kind husband and a good father, and was well liked and highly respected by all who knew him. He leaves a wife and two small children to mourn his early death.
