OBITUARY:
LATOURETTE--At the Chemekete hotel, Salem, OR, Oct 25, 1886, of inflammation of the brain, David Fayette Latourette, aged about forty years. Born in Lenawee county, Michigan, he came to Oregon with his brother, Wells Latourette, in October, 1869, locating in Salem, where he had lived continuously until his death.
He was given the position as night guard at the Oregon and California passenger depot, when it was first established in this city, by the late George A. Edes, who was the first agent, in 1871 and he held that place until he was taken sick on Thursday afternoon last.
He is a member of Valley Lodge, A.O.U.W., and will be buried by them in the IOOF cemetery from the Baptist church, corner Marion and Liberty streets, at 2 o'clock to-day.
He leaves a sister in Oregon City, and a brother (Wells) who is a guard at the penitentiary. He was married, but his wife and child preceded him to the other side and his body will be laid by their side to-day. His death was a great surprise to all who knew him and in fact but few knew he was sick, and this will be the first intimation many will have of his death.
He was highly respected by all who knew him and his demise will leave a void hard to fill. Hearty, industrious, courteous, always gentlemanly. Many travelers who have left here by the evening's train for the month, will miss him when they want their baggage checked again. His funeral will be largely attended, if any proportion of those who were his friends, or whom friend he was, follows his remains to the grave.
