OBITUARY: 
DEATH OF MR. LEITH; WAS A NATIVE OF THE FAMOUS "BUCKEYE" STATE; Helped to Frame the Constitution of Illinois and Was a Prominent Politician Isaac Lowry Leith, a native of Ohio and who has been a resident of Oregon since 1888, died at his home near Clymer, in the Waldo hills, east of Salem, at 20p.m. on the 12th inst., leaving a wife and nine children as the immediate mourners. Mr. Leith was born in Perry county, Ohio, on the 16th day of December 1814, and at the time of his death was aged 82 years, 2 months and 26 days. He resided in that state until 1840 when he emigrated to Illinois, settling in Effingham county, where he took up land and entered into farming quite extensively for many years. In 1844 he was united in wedlock with Miss Francis E. Brown and the fruits of this union were nine children-two sons and seven daughters. Leslie W. Leith, a son, is a railway mail clerk on the Illinois Central railroad, and the other son, Edmond, holds the position of telegraph operator on the same road, being stationed at Sublette, Illinois. Two of his daughters - Mrs. Dr. W. L. Wade and Mrs. John Myers - are residing in Los Angeles, California. The other children are Mrs. D. W. Matthews and Mrs. Dr. D. F. Lane, Mrs. H. H. Ragan, Mrs. Frank McLeach and Mrs. J. D. Clark, who are numbered among the citizens of Salem and vicinity. In 1888 Mr4. Leith came to Oregon and settled in this county. While in Illinois he was prominent in politics, filling several positions of honor there and was a member of the constitutional convention of Illinois. The remains will be brought to the residence of D. W. Matthews in Englewood, today where the funeral will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. under the auspices of the Masons, the deceased having been a member of this order. Oregon Statesman 14 March 1897 5:4
