Oct. 14, 1906, age 51, funeral ordered by A. B. Meade, burial in IOOF cemetery. OBITUARY:  DEATH OF JIM MEAD -- Word was received yesterday of the death of James E. Mead in the Good Samaritan hospital in Portland on Sunday evening.  Mr. Meade was a native of Salem, a son of Minor M. Mead and was born here March 3, 1851. For several years he was in the truck and dray business in this city and was known to everybody as a quiet, good-natured citizen, full of fun and always accommodating. He was also chief of police here for a time and a faithful officer. He left Salem some years ago and during the past five years lived on a homestead in Jackson county. He was stricken with paralysis several months ago and never fully recovered. Mr. Mead was never married. He leaves a sister, Mrs. G. W. Jones of Portland, and a brother, Abraham, at Oregon City. His body was brought to Salem by the late overland train last night. Interment will be in the Odd Fellows' cemetery this morning.  Daily Oregon Statesman 16 Oct 1906 5:5.
