OBITUARY:
At the family home on the Bush place, two and a half miles North of Salem Thursday night, Octavia Jean Painter, the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Painter, aged 2 years 3 months and 4 days. The cause of death was pneumonia.
The deceased was in the best of health until the Thursday before her death, when she complained of being troubled with a pain in her arm and neck. A swelling began to develop in the shoulder on Thursday afternoon and when noticed the parents immediately took the child to Dr. Reynolds of this city for examination. On examination it was found that the arm had been dislocated at the shoulder. The doctor immediately replaced the bone in position, relieving the suffering of the little girl and the family returned, thinking that the child would have no further trouble. The next day the child was taken suddenly sick. Dr. Reynolds was again called and went immediately to the bed-side of the child, whom he found suffering from an attack of quick pneumonia. She died a few hours later. It was thought by the doctor that the dislocated arm had nothing to do with the death of the child.
This child will be remembered by many as it was the baby which won the beauty prize at the Fourth of July celebration a year ago. The child’s father is nephew of A. Bush of this city. A host of friends, both in this city and in the home neighborhood north of town, mourn with the bereaved parents the sad loss of their beautiful daughter. The funeral services will be conducted at the home by Rev. Barr G. Lee of the Salem Episcopal church today at 2:30. Interment will be made in the Odd Fellows’ cemetery.
