Parmenter, single, a teacher at the mute school, age 36, b. Apr 1863 [sic] in Oregon and Nellie M., single, a dry goods saleslady, age 45, b. Aug 1854 in Massachusetts. OBITUARY:  CHARLES M. PARMENTER DIED THIS MORNING After a life of usefulness and activity in the upbuilding of the commercial and industrial interests of the city of Salem particularly, and the state of Oregon generally, Charles M. Parmenter passed away at his home, No. 823 North Commercial street, at 11:30 o'clock this morning after a four months' illness of creeping paralysis, aged 82 years, 3 months and two days. Funeral announcements will be made later. Deceased was born in Sutton, Massachusetts, July 11, 1828, and was married to Miss Hannah Pratt of Webster, Massachusetts, December 9, 1851, and came directly to Salem, Oregon, by Ox-team across the plains in June, 1857. He was a carpenter and cabinet maker by trade and immediately entered upon a career of usefulness that builded [sic] up for him and his family a comfortable fortune before he was forced to retire from the field of this world's activities on account of old age. For many years he was engaged in the furniture manufacturing business in this city, one of the first of Salem's manufacturing industries, in partnership with F. J. Babcock, and in fact, it was one of the first manufacturing industries to have been established in the state. He is survivied by his widow, Mrs. Hannah E. Parmenter and five children and two sisters. They are: Nellie M. Parmenter and Emily F. Cornell, of Portland, daughters; Charles L. Parmenter, son and Mrs. Mary Pratt, daughter, of this city, and Anna B. Parmenter, daughter, of Portland. The sisters are Mrs. Eliza Dodge and Mrs. Henrietta Parrish, both residents of this city.
