Her reputation as the best housekeeper in the community was at stake, even in the face of peril and the fact that in a few hours her house would be at the mercy of the flood, could hardly change her tidy habits of so many years." OBITUARY:  At 1056 Chemeketa street, at the residence of Mrs. G. W. Putnams, Saturday, June 12, 1909, of cancer, Mrs. Rachel Jones, aged 73 years, 2 months and 23 days. Deceased is survived by her sister, Mrs. Anna Scott, of this city, and one brother, who lived in Oklahoma. She was a pioneer of 1861, and had lived in Salem many years.
