Mrs. E. E. Pentland, a resident in Salem for 27 years and prominent in church work, died yesterday morning at the Old People’s home at the age of 76 years. She came to Oregon via the Isthmus of Panama in 1866. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 3:30 o’clock from the First Congregational church. Rev. James Elvin will officiate, assisted by Rev. Richard N. Avison. The burial will be in the Odd Fellows cemetery by the side of a daughter, Mrs. William Bagley. Mrs. Pentland was born in Maine, her natal day being July 4. She was married in 1863 to D. L. Reynolds, in Illinois, who died in 1873. There were four children by the first union, only one of whom survives, Miss Florence Reynolds, now a member of the Old People’s home in this city. A second marriage took place in 1876 to Robert Pentland of The Dalles, who died at Scio in 1887. There were three children by the last union; all of whom are dead. Miss Mildred Bagley, a teacher in the Eugene high school, is the only surviving grandchild. Mrs. Pentland had been a member of the Old People’s home for six years. She was a most loveable character and always lent her influence for good. She was influential in the community as well as in her home, many going to her for counsel and advice. Mrs. Pentland had long been an active member of the Congregational church.
