OBITUARY: 
SCION OF AREA PIONEER DIES
Pearl Lucille Applegate, 78, a retired teacher and granddaughter of the prominent pioneer, Lindsey Applegate, died Saturday at a Salem hospital.
Private graveside services will be held later at the family plot in Pioneer cemetery.
Daughter of Jesse and Virginia Watson Applegate, she graduated from Willamette University with the class of 1895 or 1896. Miss Applegate taught for many years in a number of Oregon towns, including Salem. She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian church.
Among survivors are several nieces and nephews including Lt. Col. Lindsey M. Applegate, Richmond, Virginia; Ted S. Applegate, Honolulu, T. H.; Dorothey Eckert, Leonia, N. J.; Clare Babcock, Bellevue, Wash.; and Sanford and Watson Applegate. Among cousins surviving her is Blanche Isherwood of Salem.
