DIED AT MEHAMA YESTERDAY
James X. Smith, an Aged Resident of Marion County, Has Passed Away
James X. Smith died at Mehama, Oregon, at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 1901; aged 84 years and 10 days, after a long illness, of la grippe.
Funeral services will probably be conducted at the family home, in Mehama, this afternoon, and the funeral procession will leave Mehama at 6 a.m. tomorrow, arriving in Salem about 1 p.m. and will proceed to I.O.O.F. cemetery where the burial will take place.
Deceased was one of Oregon’s early settlers and leaves two children: Mrs. G. P. Terrell and Dr. E. O. Smith, of Portland, Oregon. The town of Mehama was named after his wife, Mehama Smith.
