OBITUARY:
Asahel Bush Rites Today.
Dies After Short Illness.
Death took Asahel Bush, 47, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Bush of this city, early yesterday morning after a short illness. Several weeks of bronchial trouble brought a severe attack of bronchitis which affected his heart and brought a collapse at his home in the Haseldorf apartments here.
Funeral services are to be held this afternoon at 3:30 o’clock at the Portland crematorium.
Mr. Bush had been about his affairs early this week, taking to his bed only when physicians urged him to rest. He was visited by his family Wednesday and sat up to chat with them.
His son, Stuart, home on a vacation from school in California found him unconscious Thursday morning and from this attack he never rallied. His sudden passing shocked the community yesterday which had been uninformed of his illness.
Grandson of Asahel Bush, Sr., a pioneer in the community, and son of A. N. Bush who for many years has headed the principal bank of the Willamette valley, Mr. Bush had a wide circle of friends who esteemed him highly. Mr. Bush was born in this city, January 19, 1887. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. A.N. Bush. He was graduated from Amherst college in Massachusetts in 1909.
He was married to Margaret Lynn Boot on October 17, 1911. She died July 7 of last year.
Mr. Bush leaves his mother and father and two sons, Asahel Bush of Klamath Falls who is night editor of the Klamath Falls Herald-News, and Stuart Bush, who is attending the Tamalpais school, San Rafael, Calif., and who is home on his vacation. He is survived also by his aunts, Miss Sally Bush and Mrs. Claudius Thayer of Salem, and by Mrs. D. B. Mackie and Mrs. W. A. Carter of Portland, and his uncle, J. F. Hughes of Salem.
Mr. Bush was in the bank here with his father after leaving college. He resigned to give his services to the government. He prepared himself for the aeronautical department of the army in the study of airplane motors, airplane construction and radio. As he completed this course, the armistice was signed. He then gave his services to the government and served in the food administration at Barcelona, Spain, and other ports in Spain, as well as at Paris, France, for a year. He was employed with the reparations committee for several years in Paris. Upon his resignation from this committee he returned to his home here where he has since resided.
