Cupp Wife Files Alienation Suit
SALEM (AP) - The wife of Oregon State Prison supt. Hoyt Cupp has filed a $200,000 lawsuit charging a Salem woman with alienation of affection.
The suit, filed by Clara A. Cupp names Mary Caponette, manager of a Salem restaurant, as defendant.
The complaint alleges that between Dec. 31, 1973, and Nov. 19, 1974, the defendant "wrongfully, mailiously and willfully followed a course of conduct designed to deprive plaintiff of the love, affection, comfort, services, companionship and assistance of Hoyt C. Cupp and to deprive plaintife and the (three) minor chldren of the marital relationship existing between them."
Cupp filed for divorce in May, his attorney said. The suit is pending in Yamhill County Circuit Court.

OBITUARY: 
Hoyt C. Cupp June 22, 1927 - Oct. 8, 1900.
Hoyt C. Cupp, 63, of Salem, died Monday in Portland. 
He was born and reared in Salem, graduating from Salem High School. He graduated from the School of Correctional Administration at George Washington University in 1956 and earned his bachelor's degree from Western Oregon State College in 1977. He spent 37 years in the corrections field in Oregon, retiring Jan. 1, 1986. 
He was superintendent of the Oregon State Penitentiary for 17 years. He served in the Navy on the cruiser Springfield in the South Pacific during World War II and also was stationed one year in China. 
Committed to serving the community, he was on the boards of the Salem YMCA, the Salvation Army, Camp Fire Girls and Salem Boys Club. He head the YMCA's youth donor drive in 1983. He was past president of the American Cancer Society in Salem and was a member of the Quiet Birdman, a national pilots organization. He was given a Paul Harris Fellow by the East Salem Rotary Club in 1990. 
He married Doris M. Haag in June 1984. Surviving besides his wife are sons, Thomas and Benjamin, both of Salem; daughter Cynthia Brown of Portland; stepsons, Chris and Eric Haag of Portland; stepdaughters Cathy Rocque and Karen Trumbo of Portland; mother Blanche A. Cupp of Salem; brother, Ted of Aumsville; sisters, Virginia Winger of Springfield and Mae Sprague of Eugene; seven grandchildren and seven stepgrandchildren. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Private interment will be in Salem Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Virgil T. Golden mortuary. Contributions may be made to the Hoyt C. Cupp Corrections Scholarship Fund, Western Oregon State College Alumni Association, Monmouth.
