OBITUARY:
January 17, 1918 - March 03, 2004. TACOMA, WA - Our beloved mom, grandmother, and friend passed on peacefully to her place of eternal comfort on the morning of March 3, 2004.
She was born Kathryn Margaret Thompson in Astoria, Ore., and spent her childhood there. She graduated from Willamette University in Salem, Ore. in 1939, and was a public school teacher in Oregon prior to marrying Everett W. Clark on November 2, 1941. They were married for more than 56 great years to the time of his death in July of 1998. They spent much of their married life in Salem, Ore., with some years in Lake Grove, Ore.
She spent a number of years as a junior high/middle school librarian, helping young people in Lake Oswego and Keizer, Ore. prior to her retirement in 1980.
Kathryn and Everett spent great hours on the golf course, in the yard, and at the Oregon Coast; spending winters in Tucson, Ariz. after their retirement. Kathryn moved to Franke Tobey Jones in Tacoma, Wash. in November of 1998 and spent her last years with her friends in that wonderful facility, near children and grandchildren.
Kathryn, known as Kay or ‘Katie’ to her friends, was a good and generous friend, wonderful mother, and loving grandmother. She enjoyed many outdoor pursuits, reading, travel, and participating in the lives of her children and grandchildren. ‘Mom’ felt blessed to have such a wonderful family, and they felt the same way about her, with shared family times cherished memories for all.
Throughout her life, she cared more about people than material things. Kathryn is survived by her four children, Kathy Clark of Bayview, Idaho, Carol Plain and husband, Randy of Tacoma, Wash., Ken Clark and wife, Julie of Bellevue, Wash., and Kimberly Clark-Chaffey and husband, Jon of Tacoma, Wash.; six wonderful grandchildren, Alex and Colin Plain, Austin and Courtney Clark, and Peter and Carter Chaffey.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Everett W. Clark; sister, Greta Norlin; and parents, Asa and Lola Thompson. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests donations to a favorite charity or donations to the Franciscan Hospice of Tacoma, WA, 1717 South J St, Tacoma, WA 98405. Cremation will take place in Tacoma and the family plans private internment services at the Clark family plot at Pioneer Cemetery in Salem, Oregon at a future date.
