OBITUARY:  BOON --At the home of her mother, Mrs. Henry Boon, 231 Center street, this city, at 6:15 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 1891, Cora Boon, aged 16 years, 5 months and 14 days. Three weeks ago this young lady swallowed a pin, from the effects of which her family believe death resulted. The foreign substance gave her no trouble until six days ago, when she was taken dangerously ill. From that time up to Monday evening whe was unable to retain anything on her stomach; but Monday night, her mind having been wandering all day, she seemed better. Tuesday morning she was taken suddenly worse and died almost before the seriousness of her condition could be comprehended. Her death was sudden and unlooked for. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, by Rev. H. H. Brown, from the family home. The remains will be interred in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Oregon Statesman 8 Jul 1891 4:3  DEATH FROM NATURAL CAUSES Result of the Inquest Held by the Coroner Over the Body of Cora Boone  A suspicion existing, and a rumor having gained circulation, that the death of Cora Boone, at the family home in this city, 231 Center street, Tuesday morning, resulted from other than natural causes, an investigation was demanded and Coroner Stott arrived in the city by the 11 o’clock train yesterday, empaneled a jury, and conducted an autopsy, the result of which is given below:  What the Doctors Found  Drs. W. A. Cusick and J. N. Smith conducted an autopsy and give their findings in the following report: "We, medical practitioners of Salem, Or., summoned to make a post-mortem examination and testify as to the causes which led to the death of Cora Boone, do hereby state that we find that the deceased had extensive fatty degeneration of the liver, accompanied with congestion of the mucus membrane of the upper half of the stomach, the organic disease of the liver being the prime cause of death, by its interference with the general circulation, especially as it relates to the base of the brain --the capillary fullness of the said vessels at the base of the brain, by pressure, or capillary enlargement, pressing on the origin of the pneumogastric nerves, has produced paralysis of said nerves and consequent cessation of the heart’s action" Signed by both doctors.  The Coroner’s Verdict  After examining the witnesses, hearing the expert medical testimony and viewing the remains during the progress of the autopsy, the coroner’s jury returned the following verdict: "We, the undersigned, the jury summoned to appear before J. S. Stott, the coroner of the county of Marion, on the 6th day of July, 1891, to inquire into the cause of the death of Cora Boone, having been duly sworn according to law, and having made such inquisitions, after inspecting the body, and hearing the testimony adduced, find that the deceased was named Cora Boone, and that she was a resident of Oregon; was about 16 years old, that she came to her death on the 7th day of July, 1891 from natural causes."
